#uMatrix is #finished?

I don't think so.

Today I got to know that the development of uMatrix has stopped for now. And sadly it's not finished, because there are a lot of issues still not doen. This even was one of the reasons why the maintainer stopped developing:
I can't and won't be spending any more time on this project, and neither on all such issues.
Soo that's a pity for me. I used to use "request policy" once, a tool that blocked all cross-domain-connections in a first place and allowed them only manually. That was pretty cool, this way I blocked all the trackers and potential trackers except I allow it explicit (for example I don't care if youtube.com uses resources from google.com or if twitch.tv uses resources from images.amazon.com).
Then one day request policy was discontinued and the developer recommended "uMatrix".

uMatrix is a browser addOn that does allmost the same: It blocks all cross domain requests except those from a whitelist. Additionally to request policy the user can even decide to allow images and videos from a domain but no scripts or frames. I don't use this feature a lot, I want to have control to which domains I send requests so they are probably aware which website I'm visiting but this happens with every request no matter if I request an image or a JSON file. So I tend to deny all types or allow all types.

So anyways… uMatrix also goes on pause. So I'm not in hurry, the AddOn works fine at the moment, but I don't know how long it will do so. That's why I ask you my beloved contacts: Do you know an alternative firefox addon that gives me maximum control over cross domain requests?

Hello and a big welcome

to everyone new to diaspora\*

We're so pleased that you've decided to give diaspora\* a try. It's fantastic that you've joined us!

We hope that you quickly find your way here, and enjoy getting connected with people and content.

Here's a few tips for getting started:
  • There are some step-by-step tutorials on our project website covering the basics of how diaspora* works, and how to get connected with people. There's a link to these in the side-bar, should you ever want to read them in future, and there's also an in-app Help section you can access through your user menu (at the right-hand end of the header bar).
  • You can search for people by name or by diaspora* ID (which looks like an email address), if you know it, from the search field in the header bar. You can invite people to join you in diaspora* by sending them a link to our project website, from where they can choose their own pod to register with. Your friends don't need to be on the same pod as you in order to connect and communicate with you.
  • One good way to start getting connected with people is to start following some #tags of subjects that interest you (maybe #music, #photography, #linux, or #activism ... whatever interests you) so that you will see content on those topics in your stream. You can then start following people whose posts you find interesting, by placing them into one of your aspects.
  • If you have any questions, post something with the #question or #help tag, and people will try to help you. Make sure to make your post public so anyone who can help is able to see it!
diaspora\* has some very simple community guidelines, which we hope everyone will feel able to follow so that all members can have the best possible experience here.

We're trying to improve diaspora* all the time, fixing bugs, honing performance and adding new features. But how fast we can do this is limited by the time developers have. To improve diaspora* faster, we need more developers! If you've just signed up and can code, or know someone who can and who might be interested in joining our team, get in touch!

On a #printed #paper that I myself print, I can put my signature on it with a pen. But if someone else print it (from a file) it should still be possible to #validate my (electronic) signature from the printed paper. The #question is how.
A #QR #code could be added. In LaTeX that could point to a #detached signature of the .tex-file. In the #document could be a link to the public #key (maybe as another QR code) for #verification. Is it workable? How to do it in LibreOffice?

I've had 932 "new" signups in the last 20 days... has anyone else seen a serious uptick recently? All "persons" names are as follows: russianlastname000, where "000" is a random three digit number.

Salut.
Ça a l'air cool.

♥ diaspora*

Bienvenue parmi nous 🙂

Si tu as besoin d’aide, voici quelques liens qui pourraient t’être utiles:
* les tutoriels
* quelques conseils pour remplir ton flux
* le code de conduite
* aide générale (ne fonctionne pas sur mobile)
* le formatage des messages (aussi valable pour les commentaires)
* Le kit de base de @@SpF

Is there a Linux client for Diaspora? I'm tired of using the web browser.
Ideally a console one. Something like mutt for email or profanity for XMPP.
Related: Is there a Linux client for Mastodon? :-)

#backuptools #question

I've been toying with deja-dup in gnome. A simple interface that will store the backups in an encrypted form whereever you want. Does work for my needs but it does not respect the config in dconf. It simply ignored the number of days it should keep the data remote available (cloud storage). I have found more settings now and I will test it again but I als dislike the lack of a simple text based config for it where I can enter new entries or hidden directories. It also lacks a simple way to backup other user home directories.

It isn't a real problem. I can simply define one location to store files from other users, encrypt their data and backup that specific dir but in case of an emergency others will need me to restore the data. My wife isn't afraid of Linux but I can't ask her to do command line stuff :-)

Any suggestions?

How did you find your #diaspora pod?

Hey folks, I'm a little nosy and like to find out how your experience of diaspora* began.
I am trying to do a poll with most relevant options but as always, you cannot think about every option so please be clement :).

So this poll I ask you how you found your pod. On another poll I asked you how you initially heard of diaspora*. Checkout the #pollsondiasporaexperience hashtag.

Feel free to reshare this but remember: You cannot vote with the mobile interface nor on reshares. So to vote, please visit the origin post with desktop view :)

Sometimes, the internet does not reveal its wisdom to me.

I'd like to know how to harvest #clover seeds easily. I know I can buy 500g for 5€ but would like to know how to harvest them myself.

@bulrush@diasp.org, the #question tag is a good one to use. Make sure to make your post public, though; otherwise, only people you are sharing with will be able to see it. I just checked your profile and can see no content from you, so I guess you have been posting to your aspects only.

What #hashtag should I use if I have a question about Diaspora? I posted a question using "#question" already.

About JoinDiaspora

for @podmin@joindiaspora.com @zauberstuhl

10 days ago, after the pod joindiaspora.com was completely broken for three weeks, its podmin wrote this post. I usually keep tabs with still unanswered questions open for a while, so I can ping again. Interestingly, when I wanted to check that post for updates, that post didn't exist anymore. It was deleted by the podmin.

Under the post I asked jd's podmin how he plans to prevent similar issues in the future. I commented that obviously asking for help within feneas didn't help as nobody responded to that question for 3 months.

Lukas then responded by calling me a liar, because somebody did indeed respond! And anyway, this was the first time ever that it took him so long to respond or solve such issues!

And .. wtf?
He was right, he got one response, but that response only added more questions, it was no response to the actual question looking for someone to help maintain the pod.
And I have no idea how on earth he could just state that similar issues never took him so long to respond to or resolve. I mean, just scroll #joindiaspora for a while! Joindiaspora completely looses federation almost every three weeks ("JD's a lonely island again", "Finally seeing other pods' content again after x weeks", etc). It constantly gives 502 or 504 errors to its users when trying to publish posts or uploading photos. Stream isn't loading for weeks. At times where it does actually work, it's mostly so slow that one can barely use it.
Users do talk about it. Users send posts with complaints. Users mention the podmin account and the podmin's personal account. And he usually simply ignores them, for weeks. His reaction this time was no exception, but his usual reaction. See screenshots.

Many people already left joindiaspora, because it's so broken. Other users desperately wait for the account migration tool, so that they can finally leave this broken pod.

If you don't ever see these posts: What kind of parallel universe are you living in?

So let me ask this again:

How do you plan to prevent such issues in the future? How do you plan to solve the issue of you being the only person with access to the pod/server - the only person who can fix problems?

Deleting your posts whenever someone in the comments asks about the future of your pod won't make JD's problems disappear.

Diaspora has no concept of a community as in g+, it's completely working with Hashtags. You can subscribe to Hashtags.
Your stream is chronological and contains all the posts from your aspects and the public posts from your subscribed Hashtags.
Here is an older post who simply describes the federation and Fediverse.
In Diaspora all posts are distributed to all other servers (pods) in the network. So it doesn't matter where you register. Fully decentralized.

I recommend looking at #diaspora #question and #help Hashtags for some more information.
Or checkout the tutorials.
For desktop Firefox and chrome there is a nice extension called Diaspora Optimizer https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/diaspora-optimizer/

It's not possible to edit a post.

Hello and a big welcome

to everyone new to diaspora\*

With Google+ closing today, you might have just signed up to diaspora* looking for a new home. We're so pleased that you've decided to give diaspora* a try. It's fantastic that you've joined us! We have a big existing community of former G+ users, and you could try tags such as #gplusrefugee and #googleplus to connect with people you know from G+.

#Question for the #devs:

I've identified ~2,500 user accounts on my pod that are over 30 days old, have only signed in once ever, and have no posts, comments, likes, or PMs. They're either abandoned or (more likely) spam. Will anything be harmed if I delete them from the users table? I assume it will cascade to any linked tables, yes? Anything else to watch out for?

Thanks

#Diaspora #Question: Is there an easy way to find out which aspects I shared a limited post with?

I think it's possible to find out by digging into the json dump of the account data, but I was wondering if it could be obtained more easily and I'm just too stupid to see how...

Frage | Benutzt Diaspora Meta Tags?

Developer question: Does diaspora use meta tags?

Hi all, i'm an old developer but new to the web, and wanted to ask: Does diaspora use meta tags to preview content from links entered? Or are there plans to do this in the future?

For twitter i found this for example:
<meta name="twitter:title" content="European Travel Destinations ">
<meta name="twitter:description" content=" Offering tour packages for individuals or groups.">
<meta name="twitter:image" content=" http://euro-travel-example.com/thumbnail.jpg">
<meta name="twitter:card" content="summary_large_image">

Reference

Is there something similar that diaspora can use? (I'm asking because i'm working on a web app that could use this feature)

Bienvenue parmi nous 🙂

Si tu as besoin d’aide, voici quelques liens qui pourraient t’être utiles:
* les tutoriels
* quelques conseils pour remplir ton flux
* le code de conduite
* aide générale (ne fonctionne pas sur mobile)
* le formatage des messages (aussi valable pour les commentaires)
* Le kit de base de @SpF
