Financial services software specialist FNI has dodged a $2m licensing bullet by jumping off Oracle databases and lifting its MariaDB environment to the cloud.
The banking technology services company is moving its loan risk management system to MariaDB's DBaaS SkySQL, with a heritage in the open-source MySQL family, hosted on the Google Cloud Platform, a transition set to be complete in the next month.

Funny thing.... I was at saturn, some bigger german electronics market... We looked for a new laptop for a friend.. While standing with some clerk on the computer to find the best offer for him, i spotted this gem.#GIMP #version #2.10, in box, with #printed #manual (!), for 14,99€
At first .. i didn't really understand what the offer should be for a opensource app for more than ten bucks..
But then i learned that it included a printed manual (which explained the weight of the somewhat compact package;)).
After looking around, i spotted a bunch of comparable offers of open source software, most probably all of them including some sort of printed manual at least.
To be honest, i'm not the biggest friend of selling open source software (including only a windows binary on this one).
But ... yes i can respect that they put in the effort to distill a ready to install storage medium and a printed manual of some sort.
I don't know about the quality of the handbook itself ... and i expect that most of the content printed in there is open available documentation anyways.
But yes....
In the end .. i like it.. To see #GIMP .. as a commercially available software.... within reasonable borders..... ;)

Windows Server und auch sonst nur mit Closed Source Software. #Privatsphäre, #Datenschutz und IT- Sicherheit ist mir in letzter Zeit immer wichtiger geworden. Im privaten konnte ich das für mich so umsetzen. WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram gelöscht. Lineage statt Android. Linux statt Windows. Ich bevorzuge #OpenSource. In der Arbeitswelt sieht das ganze anders aus. Nun würde ich auch gerne beruflich mit Open Source arbeiten. Leider bin ich halt nur ein einfacher FISI. Ich kann nicht programmieren, habe kein Studium abgeschlossen. Ich bin natürlich bereit zu lernen. Nur frage ich mich. Wo soll ich anfangen. Wie kann ich beruflich die Werte umsetzen die mir privat auch wichtig sind? Welche beruflichen Einstiegsmöglichkeiten gibt es. Wie sollte man sich weiterbilden? Gibt es überhaupt solche Jobs? Als FISI habe ich da glaube ich einfach ein zu eingeschränktes Blickfeld und weiß gar nicht was möglich ist. Wenn ihr mein Blickfeld erweitern könntet, wäre das toll. Vielen dank für eure #Hilfe!
