#podmin #diaspora #federatedweb #friendica

Please be aware that the following accounts are from a spamer, if you want to save your time visit now and block straight away, other wise you will probably have to clean his sh** out of your posts.

@account 1
@account 2
@account 3

I wonder if we should consider if there are more automated measures we can take against that sh** or if it even should be considered to ban nodes that enable spaming.
(of course I know it's not the pod's fault!)

for my self I'm going to follow the hashtag #spamAlert right away ..

So kind thanks @Izaro #Friendica & also a nice version you sent 😀

Friendica kann ich sehr empfehlen

To come back again on the term diaspora and the conversation with @Robert Rapplean .

In the end this is about:
And no, in order for a platform to truly promote free speech, they do not have to tolerate the speech of "XYZ".
What is "a platform"?
Diaspora* as a code?
Diaspora* as a community?
Can there be one diaspora community due to the idea of the code and federation itself?

In my opinion this idea or request comes from a mindset raised in single entity sites like g-less or fakebook and the perception of a common identity by using the same service. It does not apply to the idea of diaspora* in my opinion and doesn't have to.

In my opinion this is a request for a pod or a system of pods that adhere to a certain set of rules.

In the back end of #friendica for example there is an opt in option to restrict communication only with defined servers. I haven't seen the back end lately so I don't now if there is an option now to exclude servers from communication.

@joe**
By "free market" I mean the idea that if there is a "real" need for something someone will come up with it. The word market has lot's of meanings. Just forget the rest of the capitalist ideas surrounding that concept.
How about "free bazaar"?

If diaspora really lives on and really grows it's likely that there will be pods for kids, unmoderated pods kinda 4chan like and probably blocking features to mute entire pods or tags for example. The problem we both see is that if it's in the back end for the podmin as a standard feature it will lead to censorship by law enforcement. So there is probably an important discussion to make if there should be a slim core d* code and independent addons, like it's managed by phpBB for example or #friendica. That way at least law enforcement would be obliged to bring out official rules for the use of the software itself exposing the "legal intervention".

This is my animated interpretation of the Fediverse.
As far as I could ascertain the logos are in keeping with open source software and can be shared but if this is not the case with any network please let me know and I can put a neutral image in its place.

Certain things may be incorrect, after all I’m only a new boy here so this animation can be modified, the hard work has been done and this is just the first attempt.

All my animations can be downloaded and used in any way you like

Fediverse, how do I know what version my server runs?

Sometimes you're in a situation when you want to know which version of a software the instance you are using runs.
For example, the software rolls out a cool new feature you read about somewhere. But of coarse it's only in the very newest version.
Or you are on the search for a new instance and you want to check if it is somehow outdated or pretty modern.

So I decided to find out how you can find out what version the software is running.

#diaspora*

If you are logged in it's on the sidebar

And if you ain't logged in you can find it on the bottom of the landing page
Bild/Foto

#Friendica

In general: You want to access the site https://your.friendica.server/friendica

So you can type that into the url bar of your browser and you'll get a page like this:
Bild/Foto

You can access that page if you are logged in when you click your nickname-menu in the upper right corner, that choose "help" scroll down and there is a link to the version-page
Bild/Foto

If you are not logged in there is an Info-I in the upper right corner (e.g. on the log in page, but also on the register page…)
Bild/Foto

#Funkwhale

No matter if you are logged in or not, scroll down on any page there will be some footer and most likely in the very left column it tells you the version of the instance:
Bild/Foto

#Hubzilla

Access https://your.hubzilla.server/siteinfo by typing this into your address bar or for example by clicking Burger-Menu → Help → About this pod → Siteinfo as seen on the screenshot:

Bild/Foto

On that page you can see the version of your hubzilla hub:
Bild/Foto

#Mastodon

There seem to be several ways to find the version. For example, if you are logged in and you have the standard view with "first steps" in the very right column it tells the version on the bottom of that column:
Bild/Foto

Or you try to access one of the "meta"-pages of your server like /explore or /about/more or /terms. On all these pages the version in noted in the footer at the bottom of the page:
Bild/Foto

Matrix

I have no idea, it probably depends on your client. Maybe someone has a hint for me

#Misskey

On the landing page if you're not logged in the version info is in the bottom right corner. If you are logged in it's on the left side.

Bild/FotoBild/Foto

#Peertube

No matter if you're logged in or not on every single page on the verry bottom in the middle of the page/column it says something like
Bild/Foto

#Pixelfed

On any and every page of pixelfed there is a text "Powered by Pixelfed" in the bottom right corner. You have to hover that text with your mouse to get the version information.
Bild/Foto

#Pleroma

I couln't find a way to get the version on the web interface (tell me if you know) but with as post projects you can access the nodeinfo
Usually it is located at https://your.pleroma.server/nodeinfo/2.0.json but if not, you can find out the correct URL under https://your.pleroma.server/.well-known/nodeinfo. If your browser cannot render the JSON proper you can paste the content into a json viewer and hit "viewer".
Somewhere is a block "software" that contains the field "version" where you can find pleromas version. Don't confuse it with the "version"-statement for the document (for example 2.0 or 2.1 that is the nodeinfo-version, not the pleroma-version).

#Plume

As far as I can see it's written on every page in the pages footer on the left site:
Bild/Foto
easy huh?

#Wordpress

As of the wide usual customization of wordpress I couldn't find a way how most of the instances expose their version. Try to follow the nodeinfo -way I discribed at Pleroma because it seems some (many?) wordpress instances use it.

#WriteFreely

(once known as "write.as")
Like some other projects the version of a write freely instance is pointed out at the bottom of almost every page:
Bild/Foto
This article and all images are licensed as #cc-by so if you have more information about this or something is outdated: Feel free to take this text, modify and repost it as your own. Just don't forget to give me ( @Deus Figendi ) attribution.
The projects I chose to explain here were those with the most nodes on the-federation.info (except ActivityRelay because it's not so relevant for users). And the order is alphabetically.

G+ style Multi-Column Streams in diaspora, Tumblr, Mastodon, Hubzilla, Friendica, YouMe, and MeWe.

I’ve put together CSS styles which provide multi-column Streams in various social media platforms. This has a huge effect on browsing speed. To use them, you:

1) Download Stylus plugin (Chrome, Firefox or Opera): https://add0n.com/stylus.html

2) Install desired Multi-Column style from here: https://userstyles.org/users/773238

3) Modify the domain it acts on if you're using a different pod

Enjoy!

= = = = = ADDITIONAL NOTES = = = = =

diaspora is the most refined, with a lot of extra features like multicolumn comments, autoexpand all posts, font size customization, and other UI enhancements

Tumblr is also solid; it keeps the standard width of Tumblr posts and is responsive to width (2 or 3 columns)

Mastodon is maybe 95% good, depending on how you prefer to use Mastodon.

Hubzilla is maybe 80% good. Because of the right sidebar, this is limited to two columns by default.

Friendica is maybe 60% good. There's some sort of vertical scrolling bug when the left sidebar is too tall. If the left sidebar is short enough to fit on screen, all is good. But if the left sidebar is too tall, then scrolling gets stuck when you're too near the bottom of the content.

YouMe is maybe 40% good. It works, but it also affects single post view. And YouMe itself is really buggy right now (it only just launched). But the good news is that my userstyle can be used to produce single column (it's normally 2 column, which not everybody likes).

MeWe is maybe 50% good. As with Hubzilla, the right sidebar limits available space. So, it only provides 2 columns by default. And due to the complexity of MeWe, it only applies to the home and Groups pages - so, only single column view if you go to a single group. But as far as I've noticed, it's not buggy.

Of these platforms, the only ones I use significantly are diaspora, Tumblr, and Mastodon. Those will be the best supported, naturally.

#diaspora #tumblr #mastodon #hubzilla #friendica #youme #mewe #pluspora #tips #tip #diasporatips

@Oliver Zet:

okay ... for a final time, let's make things clear.. ;)

#gplusrefugee [ \ | /#] #diaspora user and #fediverse netitzen Transition Status: Complete.

Now i wanna try to figure out how i can run #friendica on a #postgresql server and so open up my own little #pod.. Well, time will tell. ;)

.oO( P.s.: NO i don't want to install mariadb/mysql ... but i fear i have to install it for other cloud-thingie stuff anyways :( )

What is a #Cuckpod?

The precise criteria are somewhat murky, but it seems to involve hurting a Nazi's feelings. Various lame attempts have been made at creating a static list, but thanks to @https://podupti.me we have proper software to do this.

If you're a #cuckpodmin, or just wish you were, add your pod to the list so all of the edgelord shitheels in the Federation know to steer clear of your NPC ass. If you sign up in the next 30 days, George Soros will cover all of your hosting expenses for a year*!

(* I mean, unless he already does -- which is pretty much a given, amirite?)

  • Markdown-Reference (for Diaspora)
  • BBCode-Reference (for Friendica or Hubzilla)

    Translations
    Dear everybody reading this,

we are at the verge of going into the last phase before the next release of ~friendica ~friendica. If you happen to speak English and a second language and furthermore feel qualified enough to translate text from EN to that other language, we could use your help!

Translation of Friendica is done at Transifex (mostly) where you can use an online editor to translate the original strings into other languages. You need a (free) account at Transifex and then you can join the translation teams to work together on the translations.

The most important file to be translated is the messages.po file, it contains the strings to be translated from the core of Friendica. There are many other files to be translated as well, they belong to the Addons, the git repository and the directory, but they are not that important. E.g. we use the translation progress of the core messages.po file as proxy to determine if the translation should be included in the repository.

Anyhow, translation of the addon files might be a bit more satisfactory, as there the progress is more visible ;-)

In the editor of Transifex, you can simply select the untranslated strings to focus them. You can also search for already translated strings, if you are unhappy with the translation.

If you do the work at Transifex, I will update the Friendica repository periodically with the results of your work. Thanks a lot in advance <3 :-D

As an alternative to use Transifex, you also could use any other translation tool that supports the PO format. The base file can be found in the Friendica sources at /view/lang/C/messages.po if your target language does not already have a separate directory that contains the translation. If you choose that way, please send the messages.po file via mail to me, especially if the language is not included in the repository so far. Or, if it is, you could also make a pull request with your updates.

    Import contacts into friendica?

Is there a way to import contacts into #friendica?
I was able to export my contacts from #diaspora int a nice list, thanks to this wiki page. BTW: jq is THE swiss army knife for dealing with json.

But how can I import this list into friendica?
