The last #concert for us before the whole posse's gonna head over to Tilburg's very own #Roadburn Festival 2019 in less than a fortnight was The Ocean in Cologne's Club Volta on Wednesday.
Herod were be opening that night but besides an enigmatic announcement about "special guests" (which I took for a tongue-in-cheek nod to The Ocean), I had not a single fucking clue what was going to happen next.
After re-setting up the stage we were wondering that it didn't look like a setup for The Ocean at all. Some people in masks and mantles entered the stage and, well, see for yourselves in the video below:
Not knowing beforehand that there was even a third band playing added to it, but Briqueville managed to push about every button and pull on every string to really fuck my head in the best way possible.
After their gig, they were sold out of every copy of their first record (I got the very last one that was taped to the table) and probably also soon-ish of the copies they brought of the second record.
The Ocean were brilliant as always and also drew quite a rowdy, mosh-y metal crowd compared to Münster where I last saw them at the end of last year, but honestly, I was still digesting what had happened earlier.
Here's also a recent and decent pro shot of The The Ocean performing Silurian: Age Of Sea Scorpions
It just came to my mind, that it would have been a good idea to post my little concert critic also in english, so...here you are...😊...:
I need to get off my chest for a second: A really great opener for Rome tonight was "Blurred Twin", a young, charismatic musician from Hamburg, who managed to create a really hypnotic atmosphere with her harmonium and her great voice, which suited Rome like a perfect match...😍...! And of course Rome itself: First class performance with a lot of style and without attitudes, great sound and above all they didn't succumb to the temptation to make everything totally loud, which made the whole thing even more intense and haunting. The first band I stayed with after the concert to thank the three of them for a really great evening. Thanks, Jerome, Patrick and Eric! Anytime again!
