The local driverstore repository on my machine had a size of 72GB this morning. I shrinked it to 1,4GB using this tiny batch (to be run as eg. "cleandrivers.cmd" in a cmd shell with elevated rights). It kills OEM drivers which are not in use only so you will keep your inbox drivers and necessary OEM drivers.

If you're using Win10 Pro or Home and WU fails to install KB4530684 with error code 0x80246017 - it's a cumulative Autopilot update you shouldn't get when not using a business device. Microsoft obviously deployed the update erroneously, as they did last month with KB4523786. Also, the error only shows up when KB4523786 has already been installed. You can check this with powershell via "Get-Hotfix KB4523786" or via System Control / Apps & Features / Show installed updates). If so, the solution is to deinstall KB4523786 via System Control / Apps & Features & reboot your machine and detect MS updates again - the error should be gone now.

We hired one in our #Alameda office but are looking for another in either our #Minneapolis #Minnesota office or the #California office

Nice-to-haves*:
Knowledge of C/C++ and #Java and experience with #PHP/MySQL
Knowledge of Unix & #Linux (we previously supported #BSD, #Solaris, and perhaps some others, but just Linux now)
Basic networking experience
Experience with Perforce, #Git, or other version control software is desirable
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or similar or relevant work experience
2 or more years’ experience providing technical support directly to enterprise customers

These are listed as requirements on the site, but they make zero since to me. There is literally no one on the Minneapolis team that knows C/C++. We do have a C/C++ API, so yes, it would be good if you knew that, but most people use our derived APIs (#Perl, #Python, .NET, #Ruby, #PHP, and maybe that is it). Java, like #C, is a native API.
Also, we do support #Windows and #Mac, so unclear why knowledge of that is not listed.

Experience in customer support or customer-facing role
Strong analytics and problem-solving skills
Strong debugging skills
Ability to work in a team environment and contribute ideas and improvements
Able to work well under pressure and prioritize accordingly
Responsibilities:
Represent Perforce as the first point of contact for customer’s technical requests.
Review and research customer issues to determine and provide the best resolution.
Develop and maintain technical expertise in assigned areas of product functionality and utilize it effectively to help customers.
Resolve database and performance issues.
Research, document, and escalate cases according to procedure.
Provide customer driven feedback to functional areas in order to influence process/product improvements.
Author technical documents on common issues and solutions in order to build the knowledge base.
Positive attitude - Support engineers are required to be respectful, fair, gracious, and knowledgeable.
Create and set up test environments to reproduce and resolve customer issues.
Recreate customer environments to reproduce issues and experiment with possible solutions.

Windows 10 v1903, v1809 is said to break eventvwr custom views

I tested this and cannot confirm it. The custom views I created before installing KB4503293 work well and also the ones I created a minute ago after reading the article. I'd suppose that the SSU needed for the patch wasn't installed before on systems where the error occured.

I'm #evaluating several #messaging protocols at the moment. I'm looking for the following characteristics for a "perfect" messaging app:so far: ( + = positive, - = negative aspect of the app)
  • #Jami / #Ring Here
    • (+) platform independent #Android version is seamless with #windows and #Linux version
    • (+) supports video chat, phone calls, etc.
    • (-) only works when both parties are online at the same time. Can't retrieve messages at a later time. They are working on this. Since I don't use a data plan on my smart phone, I can only use this if #wifi is enabled.
  • #patchwork (here) ( #scuttlebutt) (windows/Linux) or Manyverse (android)
    • (+) opensource
    • (+) almost completely distributed using the idea of pubs to connect and download messages
    • (+) works even when offline. Messages sync once connection is re-established
    • (-) the android version ( #Manyverse ) cannot send #private messages (yet). If this feature is worked out, Manyverse will be the messenger of choice.
  • #retroshare (here) (windows/linux/android)
    • (+) linux/windows version looks very mature
    • (+) uses #TOR to #encrypt
    • (+) has support for #chat, messaging, #email, etc.
    • (-) Android version - alpha release. I can't get it to even create a user login at this point. I did at one point, but now it's not working.

Hopefully clang and gcc don't go "Hold my beer" anytime soon.

Actually makes me wonder if MSVC ever implemented the standard directive for inline assembly instead of continuing to say use their version.
