In an unmissable talk, journalist Carole Cadwalladr digs into one of the most perplexing events in recent times: the #UK's super-close 2016 vote to leave the European Union. Tracking the result to a barrage of misleading Facebook ads targeted at vulnerable Brexit swing voters -- and linking the same players and tactics to the 2016 US presidential election -- Cadwalladr calls out the "gods of Silicon Valley" for being on the wrong side of history and asks: Are free and fair elections a thing of the past?

The area of Wales that missed coronavirus - and the simple system it set up

One big difference that sets #Ceredigion apart was that even before it had recorded its first case of Covid-19, it had set up a "homemade" in-house test track and trace system.

The man behind it, Barry Rees, the corporate director for Ceredigion Council, is a scientist by training. He believes contact tracing is the only way of "pursuing the #disease then rather than following it".

Is this the reason for why the county has emerged unscathed? Has a simple contact tracing system saved hundreds of lives?

Coronavirus: Sewage study could predict second Covid-19 peak - BBC News

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-wales-52544247
Analysing sewage could help scientists predict a second peak of Covid-19 up to two weeks before people become symptomatic.

A team from Bangor University has been looking at samples from water treatment works across Wales in a bid to trace how many people have been infected.

The team has previously tracked norovirus through the sewage system.

People start to shed the virus in faeces up to two weeks before the onset of symptoms.

Prof Davey Jones, who is leading the School of Natural Sciences study, said: "It may be gives us a two weeks window in which we can actually monitor whether Covid is going up or down in the population before it actually hits the hospitals."

I assume this means the Tories will reject any advances by Nigel Farage's Brexit Party for an election pacts to ensure a Brexit candidate wins in the possible autumn elections. I assume they will also pay no further amounts from the magic money tree to the DUP to buy their support to prop up their minority government.

OK, someone explain this to me: UKIP promote the UK leaving the EU with all these slogans about sovereignty, taking back control and not wanting to be governed by the Brussels bureaucracy. Yet at the same time they want to reverse devolution within the UK? So that Wales (and presumably Scotland, following the same logic) will be controlled by the bureaucrats in the centralised England focused ministries in Westminster? Do they not understand the rather obvious contradiction?
