zerocovidOur goal is 0 infections.
We demand a European shutdown in solidarity.
After a full year of the pandemic Europe is in an extremely critical condition. Thousands of people die every day, even more get infected. The new corona virus disease spreads rapidly, accelerated by mutations. The measures taken by the governments are not enough: they extend the pandemic instead of ending it and thus continually endanger our lives. The strategy of controlling the pandemic (“flatten the curve”) has failed. It limited our lives and still resulted in millions of infections and tens of thousands of deaths. We now need a radical change of strategy: instead of a controlled continuation of the pandemic, it needs to end. The goal must not be only 200, 50, or 25 new infections per day – it must be zero.
We immediately need a common strategy in Europe in order to fight the pandemic effectively. We will not win with vaccinations alone. Especially not if the fight against the pandemic consists of an arbitrary limitation of leisure activities without a proper shutdown of the economy. We want that the Sars-CoV-2-infections will be limited to such an extentso as to make every single infection become traceable again. The determined action by many other countries around the world has shown that it is possible to end the spread of the virus.
We orient ourselves
on the joint statement calling for Pan-European commitment for rapid and sustained reduction in SARS-CoV-2 infections published by scientists on December 19, 2020. Yet we are convinced that the containment of the virus can only happen if all measures are designed in a way that supports solidarity in our society.
