noun: painful menstruation, typically involving abdominal cramps

This condition is very common. The pathomechanism (cause) has two main components: abnormal blood flow patterns and hormone system dysregulation. When blood flow is poor, the uterus will cramp as it struggles to shed the lining. The quality of blood will be clumpy and dark showing a pattern of blood stagnation.

Although each patient is unique and requires an individualized approach, here is a base prescription I have used with great outcomes:
- Paeoniae Radix alba
- Atractylodis macrocephalae Rhizoma
- Chuanxiong Rhizoma
- Angelicae sinensis Radix
- Poria
- Alismatis Rhizoma

Note: the primary function of this prescription is to nourish and move the uterine blood.
