That's interesting, because I would argue that it is now even more important to study other languages. After all, you will be on your own, trading with other nations.

Their argument is, "but everyone speaks English anyway, so we don't need to learn foreign languages'. Off course that's nonsense, as supporting and working with a customer (or supplier for that matter) in their language is a competitive advantage, but they don't think that far.
Learning a language opens the door to understanding the other's culture. Yes, that is a major competitive advantage, I agree.
